Biography
Annemarie Schubert is a violinist based in New York City and Switzerland, performing across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. She has collaborated with leading artists in historically informed performance, including Rachel Podger, Jordi Savall, Masaaki Suzuki, Leila Schayegh, William Christie, and Kristian Bezuidenhout, and appeared with ensembles such as Juilliard415, Musica Angelica, ARTEK, and the JSBEnsemble of the Bachakademie Stuttgart.
Marie is a founding member of Quartet Novalis and As The Crow Flies, two ensembles rooted in historical performance. She is passionate about engaging with the aesthetics and cultural context of early music, seeking to understand and interpret works as they may have been experienced in their time.
An active educator, Marie has taught as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School, and worked as a Morse Teaching Artist in New York City public schools. Her academic interests span early Baroque to contemporary genres, and she maintains a private studio in violin and viola.
Marie holds a dual degree in Violin Performance and Neuroscience from Oberlin, and graduate degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory and Juilliard. She was recently named a Juilliard–Mercury Fellow for 2025–26 and an Academy member of the Insula Camerata.
When she is not deliberating the merits of up vs down bow, Marie enjoys traversing the streets in search of the best pastries and coffee, scouring bookshelves to add new material to her reading list, or ambling through museums.
